The mention of him speaking Japanese though got a head tilt and a thoughtful hum out of him.]

The Japanese language is very similar to one in my home world, my first language. I'd only learned how similar they were by accident. But I've found that in both my world and this one it is most convenient to use the commonly spoken language.

At the scale gesturing, he shook his head lightly. Honestly he's shocked it took someone this long to ask about it.]

Not at all. My people, the Au Ra, are born with scales that protect us, horns used to hear and tails. Even in my home world we are largely uncommon outside of certain regions.

Really, the only thing keeping his brief silence from turning awkward is his aversion to being rude. He was flattered, really. Just caught off guard.]

Well, he looked fine to Takame, at least. He still made a mental note to be wary of stepping out of line and gave a dip of his head as thanks for the food. Sweets were far from his favorite food, but he would never decline such kindness.

And at least it wasn't candied.]

Not at all, they're both very good and very fresh. Besides, it's my treat.

The real problem cropping up now is that deep down he was hoping Yusuke had a preference and thus would make the decision for him. Ah, but he mustn't continue to act this way... he had to make his own decisions, even small ones.]

I see. If you insist, thank you. [It wasn't choice paralysis that stopped him, just poor habits. But in the end he decided on the apple pastry and taking a small bite out of it.

As far as sweets go, it was not so bad that it gave him a headache. In fact it was rather subtle compared to other kinds. It helped that it was fresh and thus warm. Heavens knew Takame wouldn't say not to that.]

I'm glad you think so. [Excuse him as he grabs the other pastry] Can I ask about your home? I've never even dreamed of a place like Japan but not.

I hail from a land called Doma which is stationed within the Yanxia region of the continent of Othard and stands at the edge of the Ruby Sea which separates it from Hingashi. Doma largely sits by the water, be it from the Sea or from the great One River. [A short pause, then he continued.]

I've spent a vast majority of my life within Kugane as well. It is the only city that the nation of Hingashi has opened to foreigners and as such has visitors and consulates from each of the Three Great Continents and beyond.

[He can't help but think that this "Hingashi" and "Kugane" sounds a lot like Japan a few centuries ago. Interesting.]

Obviously the languages are the same or similar enough...oh, does Doma or Hingashi have sushi?

Yes, both do. Often prepared with fish from one another's region, though it has become popular in the West as well.

It's just so interesting to me that, frankly, our homes sound very similar if not a century or two removed from each other...and with the addition of Au Ra in your case. I've never thought of Earth as "uninteresting" but in the last few months--the last few hours...

I am sure your world has much that mine does not. If it has anything like what Kaisou does the fact that there is such advanced technology and free means to communicate without magic is awe inspiring in its own right, is it not?

I suppose, put that way. And I will admit, things have gotten extremely interesting since I think my childhood wish to be a fox may be coming true.
